Membership

The Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild is a membership organization with credibility and prestige that comes from maintaining high standards and professionalism. Our cooperative advertising provides strength in numbers through the Guild’s website, Destination Guide, toll-free information phone line, and lodging gift vouchers.

OBBG has two levels of membership: Aspiring Innkeepersand REGULAR.   Aspiring innkeepers are those individuals that have an interest in becoming a regular member.  Currently the dues for aspiring innkeepers is $95.00 a year.

REGULAR membership is held in the name of the inn, which must be located in Oregon. Prospective members are sent an introduction packet and application form. Costs include a one-time $100.00 application and inspection fee and a one-time $100 marketing fee.  Annual dues are $175.00 plus $35.00 per room up to nine rooms. Additional rooms are $15.00 each. Contact us through the web site (www.obbg.org) or our information line 1-800-944-6196.

Although our membership year begins January 1, our first print directory goes to press at that time, the Oregon B&B Guild prorates dues membership for those inns joining the Guild after January 1.  Dues will be prorated into 12 monthly segments and based upon the month in which one's inspection is performed.  For example, an inn inspected in May would pay dues equal to 8/12 times the annual dues for an inn of that size; an inn inspected in June would pay 7/12 times the annual dues, etc.  Inns joining mid year will be added to the website immediately and to the print data base to be included in any subsequent print media.

The Bed and Breakfast Experience

OBBG offers a wide variety of bed and breakfast accommodations, from guest cottages to historic mansions to small hotels. Although all member inns meet OBBG standards for hospitality and safety, each inn and every innkeeper is unique.

Our innkeepers can provide a wealth of information about regional points of interest, activities, and events. They are eager to assist you with itinerary planning, shopping, dining suggestions, and other needs.

Rates listed range from low to high season, plus any applicable taxes, are for two guests, one room, with breakfast included. Breakfast can vary from a basket of treats to an expanded continental buffet to a multi-course extravaganza, depending on the inn. Our innkeepers pride themselves on pampering their guests, but if you have special needs or dietary restrictions, be sure to advise your innkeeper in advance.

Every time you stay at a bed and breakfast inn, it will be a new experience as each innkeeper has his or her unique personality. Variations in decor, atmosphere, breakfast, and personalized service are what entice travelers to try different inns. You can be assured that all OBBG member inns meet or exceed the Guild’s standards and inspection criteria. However, each inn has its own policies and procedures. Some items you may wish to inquire about include:

  • Deposits, cancellation policies and fees
  • Check-in and check-out times
  • Accommodations for children
  • Pets of the inn and accommodations for guest pets
  • Smoking policies
  • Telephone and dataport availability
  • Other special needs

Definitions and Distinctions

OBBG offers a wide variety of inns, from a small guest cottage or two-room bed and breakfast to a larger country inn or small historic hotel. No two inns are alike. Some guests may prefer a smaller bed and breakfast for a quiet romantic getaway, while others may want a larger urban country inn or small hotel that serves dinner. To help you better understand the range of offerings, we include these definitions and distinctions modified from The Professional Association of Innkeepers International.

  • Bed and Breakfast: Formerly a single family dwelling usually in the 2-5 room range, this owner-occupied establishment has an equally mixed use as home and lodging with lodging superseding home more often than not.
  • Bed and Breakfast Inn: Generally a small, owner occupied inn. The building’s primary usage is lodging. Breakfast is the only meal served and only to overnight guests. The inn may host events such as weddings, small business meetings, etc. Room numbers range from 4 to 20.
  • Country Inn or Bed and Breakfast Hotel: These inns offer over-night lodging and meals where the owner or manager is actively involved in daily operations, and is on site 24-hours a day. These establishments generally serve at least one meal in addition to breakfast, and operate as "restaurants" as well as overnight lodging accommodations. Room numbers tend to range from 6 to 30.

Aspiring Innkeepers

Aspiring Innkeepers are defined above. They are not eligible for full membership or voting priveledges, but they have an interest in the aims and objectives of the Guild. They may attend all meetings and conferences and shall receive official Guild communications.

Business Travel

When you’re on a business trip, Oregon Bed & Breakfast Guild members will make you feel at home with friendly, relaxing accommodations and a healthy breakfast to help you start your day. In addition, many inns offer in-room phones with data ports, fax machines, conference rooms, early breakfast times and other amenities geared toward the business traveler.
