Crater Lake Lodging along with Birdwatching on the Crater Lake Loop

Located just 28 miles from Crater Lake National Park, The Prospect Historic Hotel-Motel and Dinner House can be the perfect home base when birding on the Crater Lake Loop of the Oregon Cascades Birding Trail.   The Rogue River is minutes away with mature riparian habitat surrounded by mixed conifer forests.  Peregrine Falcon, Calliope and Rufus Hummingbirds nest in these forests.  Diamond Lake supports high concentrations of diving birds.  The rich, diverse habitats on the Crater Lake Loop provide home for a large variety of birds.  Crawford Creek Meadows is home to at least eight species of nesting owls.

The Propsect Historic Hotel Bed and Breakfast,  built in the late 1800’s, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The magnificent stage house sits on five acres with grounds great for strolling or just relaxing after a long day’s hike.

Nestled in the woods behind the main house, the 14 motel units offer exceptional privacy and convenience.  The motel is accommodating to travelers with large groups.

The Prospect Hotel and Crater Lake

Red’s time was short at the Prospect Hotel in Oregon’s Southern Cascades.  And the innkeepers of the Historic Hotel showed it a great time, exploring Oregon’s Southern Cascades.  Red especially loved the snow shoe trip up to the rim of famous Crater Lake, one of the 7 Wonders of Oregon.  Did you know that Crater Lake is the deepest lake in America, the second deepest in North America and the ninth deepest lake in the world? Thanks Travel Oregon for the video share

We will continue to share Red’s travel through Oregon as it visits the Seven Wonders of Oregon, Oregon Wine Country, Mt Hood, Crater Lake and all points in between, while experiencing gracious bed and breakfast hospitality at more than 20 inns of the Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild

BedandBreakfast.com has partnered with Red Chair Travels keeping the journey alive and now the inns of the Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild will do our part .  We know you’ll enjoy the ride and hope you’re inspired to travel to the places, and inns, that Red will visit.

Red Chair Travels headed up the Rogue River Gorge for a stay at the Historic Prospect Hotel.  Built in 1888 as a stage coach stop halfway between the Rogue Valley and Crater lake, this Nationally Registered Historic Hotel has been restored for full comfort while maintaining its charm.  Being the Closest Bed and Breakfast to Crater Lake, only 28 miles away, the inn is a perfect home base while exploring Southern Oregon’s National Forests, Wilderness areas and BLM land, and the majestic Lake, of course.

From the inn you can take a stroll to the Rogue River and three lovely waterfalls and to the Avenue of the Boulders, huge boulders thrown when Mt Mazama blew up 7000 years ago.  From the Prospect Hotel head out for the day to hike, bike, raft, fish, Cross Country Ski or snow shoe.  You get the picture: plenty to do from the Prospect Hotel.
