3 Capes Scenic Drive

Our innkeepers are so very talented and creative.  Not only do they provide unique bed and breakfast accommodations, delightful breakfasts and all the amenities to present a unique lodging experience, we also spend time exploring our regions so as to have the very best local information for our guests.  Where to watch the best sunset, see a magnificent waterfall, the best stroll on the beach or hike in our forest.  We’ve been here and done that!  That’s what makes staying at a member inn of the Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild the perfect getaway.  Whether it be only for a night or an extended weekend.

This video was created by Diane Emineth, Innkeeper of the Sandlake Country Inn, to be shared with her guests and with her permission, to all of you.  Located just 10 minutes north of Pacific City, is this secret hideaway nestled on the scenic Oregon coast. The historic farmhouse built from shipwrecked bridge timbers in 1894, is located in a country setting approximately 1 mile from the Pacific Ocean coastline.

Enjoy the video and thanks, Diane.

Red Chair Travels finishes up its stay at the McKenzie River Inn, not able to see half the attractions that the World Famous McKenzie River Area has to offer.  Here it sits in the sun imagining the summer activity on the Wild and Scenic McKenzie River and the things it missed in the nearby Willamette National Forest:

  • Bike or Hike the McKenzie River Trail
  • Float the McKenzie River on a famous McKenzie River Drift Boat
  • Fly Fish with or without a guide
  • Soak at Tewrilliger Hot Spring
  • Drive the Oregon Scenic Byways ~ Hwy 126 and 242
  • Take a Horseback Ride
  • Golf Tokatee
  • Take a Row Boat out on Clear Lake
  • Visit the amazing Waterfalls
  • Road Bike Hwy 19

You can see why Red Chair would have liked to stay a few days more at the McKenzie River Inn.  But it must travel on to Oregon’s Willamette Valley where it will visit Youngberg Hills Vineyard and Inn

Red Chair Travels headed up the Rogue River Gorge for a stay at the Historic Prospect Hotel.  Built in 1888 as a stage coach stop halfway between the Rogue Valley and Crater lake, this Nationally Registered Historic Hotel has been restored for full comfort while maintaining its charm.  Being the Closest Bed and Breakfast to Crater Lake, only 28 miles away, the inn is a perfect home base while exploring Southern Oregon’s National Forests, Wilderness areas and BLM land, and the majestic Lake, of course.

From the inn you can take a stroll to the Rogue River and three lovely waterfalls and to the Avenue of the Boulders, huge boulders thrown when Mt Mazama blew up 7000 years ago.  From the Prospect Hotel head out for the day to hike, bike, raft, fish, Cross Country Ski or snow shoe.  You get the picture: plenty to do from the Prospect Hotel.

Prospect Historic Hotel Bed and Breakfast Inn provides lodging in its 10 room, each with period furnishings and decorations, private baths and beautiful quilts on every bed.  Hearty belly filling breakfasts.  Stay where Teddy Roosevelt, Jack London, Zane Grey, John Muir, William Jennings Bryan, Gifford Pinchot and Hubert Humphrey slept. Relax in the sitting parlors, warming your toes at the fireplace and catch up on some local history from our collection of books.  Unwind on the wrap around Veranda with a glass of wine or a microbrew and a good book

Geotourism is a great way to see the United States. Keith Riggs at the US Department of Agriculture recently posted a really good blog post about touring through Northern California and Southern Oregon on the national Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway.  The route runs from Lake Almanor in Northern California to Crater Lake in Southern Oregon, passing through seven national forests along the way.  Riggs writes:

‘Along this journey from volcano to volcano you’ll find opportunities for adventure, exploration, communion with nature and an appreciation for the culture and history of the region. You’ll also find residents eager to share the beauty and mystery of this land that is dotted with evidence of an eruptive past.’

We’d like to make sure you know about some of the residents along the way–the innkeepers of Southern Oregon bed and breakfasts ready and eager to host you as you explore the volcanic region of Southern Oregon.

You’ll find our Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild members in Southern Oregon here on the OBBG website.  Each one is a different lodging experience, but all are inspected and approved members of the Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild.

Red Chair Travels nears the end of its stay at WildSpring Guest Habitat. The storm has cleared, leaving a stunning vista of the Pacific Ocean and allowing for reflection on time spent on Oregon’s stunning South Coast.
