Chase Waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge and the Mt Hood National Forest
Home to the highest concentration of waterfalls in North America, the Gorge is a dream for waterfall chasers. Don’t miss iconic Multnomah Falls, a two-tiered marvel just off the Historic Columbia River Highway. Other favorites include Horsetail Falls, Latourell Falls, and Wahclella Falls, each offering scenic hikes through mossy canyons and fern-covered trails.
For the Best Oregon Waterfalls with spectacular Wildflower Bloom start at the Mt Hood Meadows Ski Resort parking lot, take the service road up to Upper Heather Canyon Falls (#22) then hike the Timberline Trail past Pencil Falls (#21) and back down to the lodge. The wildflowers were amazing. The views were stunning. Take a bit off your mileage with a ride on the Stadium chair lift for trail access.
Biking the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail is a scenic and car-free way to explore. On the water, try windsurfing or kiteboarding in Hood River, known as the windsurfing capital of the world, or take a more relaxed paddle along the Columbia or at nearby alpine lakes.
Savor Local Flavors
The Hood River Valley, also known as the Fruit Loop, is lined with orchards, wineries, cideries, and farm stands. Taste fresh cherries, pears, and apples in season, or stop for a glass of wine with a mountain view. Breweries in Hood River like pFriem and Full Sail serve up craft beer and Columbia River views.
Visit Historic Timberline Lodge
Built in the 1930s as a Works Progress Administration project and famously featured in The Shining, Timberline Lodge is a National Historic Landmark. Even if you’re not skiing, it’s worth a visit to admire the hand-carved architecture, sip hot cocoa by the fire, or hike the nearby Pacific Crest Trail.
Take the Scenic Route
The Historic Columbia River Highway was the first scenic highway in the U.S. and remains one of the most beautiful drives in the country. Winding past waterfalls, stone bridges, and lookout points like Vista House at Crown Point, the road offers access to some of the region’s most photogenic spots.

As of June 1, 2026, the Oregon Association of Independent (formerly the Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild – OBBG) discontinued the program, and gift certificates are no longer available for sale. However, existing gift certificates remain valid and may still be redeemed.
The Oregon Association offers a wide variety of inns, from a small guest cottage or two-room bed and breakfast to a larger country inn or dude ranch. If you need assistance locating a participating property or have difficulty redeeming your certificate, please contact us—we’re happy to help.
