Small, family-owned businesses are the backbone of our economy. They fuel local growth and account for nearly 70% of new jobs across the country. That’s why, each year on March 29, we celebrate National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day – a day dedicated to recognizing the more than 27 million small businesses that keep our communities thriving.
The holiday was created by Rick Segel and Margie Segel in honor of their parents, who built a humble hat shop in 1939 into a thriving 10,000-square-foot clothing store generating $2 million in sales. Their story reflects the passion, perseverance, and dedication it takes to succeed as a small business owner.
The Oregon Association of Independent Inns are only some of these small, family -owned businesses in your community. On March 29, take a moment to recognize the long hours and hard work behind your favorite local spots. Stop in, shop small, and say thank you.
Shopping Small adds up to Big Things
The Oregon Association of Independent Inns offers a wide variety of inns, from a small guest cottage or two-room bed and breakfast to a larger country inn or small historic hotel. No two inns are alike. One thing we all have in common: we are small, owner/manager operated, independent lodging properties. - Certificates may be redeemed at participating Oregon Association of Independent Inns properties.
Thank you for supporting Oregon’s Independent Inns and lodging properties over the years. We’re grateful to everyone who has shared the gift of lodging through the OAII Lodging Gift Voucher Program.
As of June 1, 2026, the Oregon Association of Independent (formerly the Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild – OBBG) discontinued the program, and gift certificates are no longer available for sale. However, existing gift certificates remain valid and may still be redeemed.
The Oregon Association offers a wide variety of inns, from a small guest cottage or two-room bed and breakfast to a larger country inn or dude ranch. If you need assistance locating a participating property or have difficulty redeeming your certificate, please contact us—we’re happy to help.
