Paulina Creek Falls

Paulina Creek Falls twin 80-foot waterfalls side by side is always a special experience, and certainly worth seeing. Still, the flow can be modest, and the frequently cited 100-foot height seems a bit generous. Paulina Creek is the outflow from Paulina Lake that sits within the Newberry Crater, formed from over 500,000 years of volcanic activity.

What truly stands out is the surrounding scenery. Paulina Creek, both above and below the falls, flows gently with occasional slides and rapids, and the entire stream corridor is beautiful. Just upstream, the creek splits around a small island before tumbling over a dramatic cliff made up of ancient volcanic ash flows and breccias from the Newberry Volcano. The cliff’s loose structure is clear from the large boulders scattered in the gorge below, hinting at the area’s dynamic geological history.

Our Chasing Waterfalls and Oregon Waterfall Wednesdays series continues. According to Northwest Waterfall Survey there are well over 1000 waterfalls in Oregon! We’ve set out to witness the beauty of as many as we can. We’ll share our finds with you, our guests, so you too can set out to Chase Waterfalls.
