Oregon’s Salt Creek Falls

Salt Creek Falls is one of Oregon’s most striking waterfalls, a powerful, vertical drop set deep within the forests of the Cascade Range. Rising at about 3,900 feet in the Willamette National Forest, the creek suddenly plunges 286 feet over a sheer basalt cliff into a dramatic, amphitheater-like canyon below. That single uninterrupted drop makes it one of the tallest waterfalls in Oregon, surpassed only by a few others in height:

  • Tallest overall: Multnomah Falls – 620′
  • Tallest single drop: Watson Falls – 293′
  • Very close contender: Salt Creek Falls – just 7 feet shorter than Watson

So while Salt Creek Falls is one of the tallest and most impressive single-drop waterfalls in Oregon, only a couple clearly surpass it—and that’s part of what makes it so special.

A short, mostly level wheel-chair accessible path leads to a dramatic overlook just steps from the parking area, while a steeper trail drops down into the canyon for a closer, mist-filled perspective. Extend your hike to include Diamond Falls on the Salt Creek and Diamond Creek Falls trail.

With winter and spring come winter storms and snow pack melt, supplying Oregon scenic rivers the water needed to create our wildly beautiful and renowned waterfalls.
