UPDATE: THE MITCHELL POINT TUNNEL IS OPEN
The unveiling of the tunnel was a significant milestone toward the decades-long vision to reconnect the original “King of Roads,” the 73-mile continuous route through the Columbia River Gorge from Troutdale to The Dalles. The iconic Mitchell Point Tunnel was a highlight of the original Historic Highway, but the construction of Interstate 84 destroyed the tunnel.- Five arched windows with expansive views of the Columbia River.

Before it was blown up to build Interstate 84, the Mitchell Point Tunnel was one of the largest draws for travelers of the Scenic Columbia River Highway. Join us and filmmakers, A Path Less Pedaled, as they take us back in time to our nation’s first scenic highway-and give us a glimpse into what the future holds for this pinnacle of early 20th century rural highway design.
In July, 2015, the Oregon Department of Transportation debuted six short films at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland. The films were developed to highlight the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail and the benefits of connecting the final 10 miles of Historic Highway State Trail into Hood River.

As of June 1, 2026, the Oregon Association of Independent (formerly the Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild – OBBG) discontinued the program, and gift certificates are no longer available for sale. However, existing gift certificates remain valid and may still be redeemed.
The Oregon Association offers a wide variety of inns, from a small guest cottage or two-room bed and breakfast to a larger country inn or dude ranch. If you need assistance locating a participating property or have difficulty redeeming your certificate, please contact us—we’re happy to help.

- Gift certificates are treated as cash and cannot be replaced if lost, stolen, or destroyed.
