Wilson Ranches Retreat

Welcome, Partner, to Wilson Ranches Retreat

At Wilson Ranches Retreat, your hosts, Phil and Nancy Wilson, are fifth generation Oregonians, whose families homesteaded in Wheeler and Gilliam Counties over 100 years ago.  A 9,000 acre working cattle and dude ranch takes you off the beaten track to a rustic hideout, located in the beautiful Butte Creek Valley three miles West of Fossil, Oregon off Highway 19.

Although the ranch has been running for over 100 years the Wilson’s opened the farmhouse to B&B guests 15 years ago.  Breakfast with the Wilson’s is about much more than just good food and nourishment, it is truly a unique dining experience.   Phil Wilson, his daughter Kara, and his extended family sit down with the guests and share about ranch life, local history, and the funny and serious sides of rural living. Whatever the topic at the breakfast table, expect the conversation to be intelligent, informed and often humorous. You are likely to have a large helping of fun and laughter with Phil’s stories

Let your inner Cowboy or Cowgirl out!  Visit Wilson Ranches Retreat for an authentic Ranch experience.  Not the riding type?  Not a problem.  Sit under the cottonwoods, sipping lemonade while the rest of your party is out ‘working’! But you might want to join in. There may be an inner cowhand you’ve never even met!

This incredible, secluded scenic Oregon Lodging Ranch with spectacular sunsets and brilliant star-studded nights will captivate you.  Enjoy horseback riding in a geologically and historically rich area with a magnificent view of the Cascade Mountain Range or a quiet hike to view the wildlife and diverse flora and fauna on Wilson Ranches Dude Ranch. Wheeler County is home of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument and has the richest find of prehistoric fossils in the world.

Three Sleeps

Three Sleeps Vineyards Bed and Breakfast

Three Sleeps Vineyards B&B has two beautiful rooms that overlook their mountain vineyard and the little valley in Mosier full of cherry trees and a Mt. Adams view.  Only 15 mins from the heart of the Columbia River Gorge and Hood River you’ll feel like you are miles from anywhere. Both rooms have private baths and patios and their own entrances.

When the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery Expedition traveled through the area in 1805 they asked the local Native Americans how far it was to the Great Pacific ocean.  The answer, as you’ve guessed, was “Three Sleeps”.  The Three Sleeps Vineyard is the source of Dominio IV’s Tempranillo, Syrah and Viognier grapes and is farmed organically and biodynamically.

Each well appointed room at Three Sleeps B&B has a private entrance, bath and cozy seating area.  Relax on your patio and enjoy the view of the vineyard, the world famous cherry orchards and Mt. Adams in the background.  Both rooms also feature satellite TV with HBO, a DVD and wireless internet. Fresh coffee, tea and hot chocolate are available around the clock just outside your door.  Start each day with a hardy breakfast complemented by local eggs and seasonal fresh fruits.

Anyone who knows the Columbia River Gorge knows that it offers an extraordinary range of activities throughout the year, including wind surfing, kite boarding and other water sports, skiing and snowboarding, hiking, fishing, birding and many others. And the Wines: ‘A World of Wine in 40 miles’ is the motto of the Columbia Gorge Winegrowers. Three Sleeps is located in Mosier,  just 5 miles east of Hood River.

McKenzie River Round House

McKenzie River Round House sits on a forested 4 acre bluff with stunning views overlooking the McKenzie River

McKenzie River Round House is a mid century modern ‘ustonian‘ style home and we welcome them as new members of the Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild.  I had to look the term ustonian up.  In the early 1900s, there was talk of calling the United States “U-S-O-N-A” to differentiate America from the new Union of South Africa that had just been established.  Years later, after the Great Depression, Wright took that term and applied it to his new style of homes, while in an attempt to create affordable housing for middle income families.  Using organic architecture Wright fulfilled his vision by including it in every aspect of his homes.  McKenzie River Round House would appear to have come up from the ground and into the fresh air and sunshine, or in Mr Wright’s own words: “out of the ground and into the light!

The three spacious guest rooms at McKenzie River Round House, each with a private bath, are filled with brilliant light and all the amenities to create a comfortable, relaxing retreat.  Views of the surrounding forest and river await and the local handcrafted lavender soap is the innkeeper’s gift to you.  And of course the highlight of your stay at any reputable bed and breakfast, a delightful breakfast is included.

McKenzie River Round House can be your home base when exploring the McKenzie River area.   By car or bike take the McKenzie Pass Scenic Bikeway or Byway or the Over the Rivers and Through the Woods Scenic Byway.   Hike the McKenzie River Trail from one McKenzie River Waterfall to the next. Or perhaps:

  • Float the McKenzie River on a famous McKenzie River Drift Boat
  • Fly Fish with or without a guide
  • Soak at Terrilliger Hot Spring
  • Take a Horseback Ride
  • Golf Tokatee
  • Take a rowboat out on Clear Lake

Never a shortage of things to do from the McKenzie River Round House, located about 35 – 40 minutes from Eugene and the Willamette Valley and about an 1½ hours from Sisters in Central Oregon.
