Birding in Oregon – A Birders Dream

A Bird Watchers dream is found at many locations throughout the State of Oregon. There are extensive reserves all over the state. These habitats serve as excellent nesting and brood rearing areas for waterfowl and colonial nesting birds including American white pelican and several heron species. Bald eagle and osprey nest in many parts of the state and can sometimes be seen dining on the local wild life. Many of our Member Inns have grounds designed with birds in mind or are located near land ideal for birding.

The Bald Eagles Have Landed in the Columbia River Gorge – Bald eagles migrate south each winter, from as far away as Alaska in search of food. The Columbia River provides an excellent food source and the trees around the dam provide for a favorite winter vacation spot.

Winter Birding in Southern Oregon – While winter birding in Southern Oregon witness the noisy, large flocks of snow geese as they settle to rest in the tule marshes of the Klamath Basin.

Oregon Birding in the Willamette Valley – There is an amazing wildlife show at these three Oregon wildlife refuges. Oregon Bird Watching is amazing. Especially this time of year when activity along the major flyways increase.

As Oregon’s most northeastern county, Wallowa County is host to many bird species not necessarily found in other Oregon regions. Let us suggest some places to birdwatch, including The Nature Conservancy’s 32,000 acre Zumwalt Prairie Preserve, noted for its extensive raptor population.
